Privacy Policy
RunFiller is a personal comic-collection tracker. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
TL;DR
We collect the minimum data needed to make the app work: what comics you own, what you want, and what you scan. We don't sell your data, we don't share it with advertisers, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure in the United States. You can delete your account and all of your data from inside the app at any time, and you can turn off anonymous usage stats in Settings.
Who We Are
RunFiller is an iOS application developed by Baz Studios LLC, a Delaware limited liability company.
You can reach us at runfiller@bazstudios.com.
What We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Your collection: which comic series you track, which issues you own, which issues are on your wantlist
- Scan activity: cover photos you submit for image-based matching. By default we do not retain these photos — they are sent to our matching service, used to identify the comic, and discarded. If you opt in to our Model Improvement program (see below), we retain those photos for training purposes.
- Settings preferences: your collector identity choice (Cover A only, all variants, etc.) and other in-app preferences
Information collected automatically
- Account identifier (Sign in with Apple): you sign in with Apple, and we store the stable, anonymous identifier Apple provides so we can associate your collection with your account. We do not store your name or email address.
- Anonymous usage stats: basic in-app events — such as which screens you view, when a scan starts or completes, and which features you tap — along with your app version, platform, and a randomly-generated session identifier. These contain no personally-identifying information, no search queries, and no scan photos or comic titles. We use them to understand how the app is used and decide what to improve. You can turn this off in Settings → Privacy & Data.
- Diagnostics and error reports: when the app hits an error or crash, we record the error message, a technical stack trace, your app version, the screen or request involved, and a session identifier so we can find and fix the problem. No scan photos or comic titles are included. This is controlled by the same Anonymous usage stats toggle in Settings → Privacy & Data.
Information we DO NOT collect
We do not collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number, or physical address
- Your location (GPS, IP geolocation, etc.)
- Your contacts or calendar
- Health, financial, or biometric data
- Browsing history outside the RunFiller app
- Any data for cross-app or cross-website tracking
How We Use Your Information
- To save your collection across app sessions
- To match a scanned cover photo to a specific comic issue
- To show you progress against runs you're tracking
- To understand, in aggregate, how the app is used so we can prioritize improvements (anonymous usage stats — opt-out in Settings)
- To diagnose crashes and improve app stability
We do not use your information for advertising, marketing emails, or any commercial purpose beyond making the app function.
Model Improvement Opt-In (Optional)
You can choose to help RunFiller's cover-matching improve over time by letting us use your scan photos as training data. This is opt-in only — by default we do not retain your photos.
If you opt in:
- Cover photos from your scans are retained on our secure storage (Cloudflare R2, US region)
- Photos are stripped of all metadata (EXIF, GPS, device identifiers) before storage
- Photos are stored separately from your account data — the training dataset itself contains no link to your identity
- The cover-id you accepted (or chose from alternatives) is stored alongside each photo as a ground-truth label
We use this data to:
- Evaluate how accurately our current model matches real-world phone photos
- Fine-tune future models for better matching, especially on edge cases (variant covers, foil editions, sketch covers, etc.)
We do NOT use this data to:
- Identify you, track you, or build a profile
- Sell, rent, or share with third parties
- Train models for any purpose unrelated to cover matching in RunFiller
You can revoke this consent at any time in the app's Settings → Privacy & Data section. Once revoked, we will delete all of your previously-contributed training photos from our storage within 30 days.
The scope of this consent applies only to RunFiller's own model improvement work. If we ever want to share training data with third parties (academic researchers, partner companies, etc.), we will ask for separate, additional consent before doing so.
How Your Information Is Stored
Your collection data is stored in Neon Postgres (US-East region). Cover images you submit for scan matching are processed by Google Cloud (US-Central region) — Vertex AI for image matching and Cloud Vision for reading the text on the cover. Images are sent for analysis and discarded after, unless you have opted in to the Model Improvement program (see above), in which case anonymized photos are retained on Cloudflare R2 (US region) for training purposes. The application backend runs on Fly.io in the US.
All providers maintain industry-standard security practices including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest.
Who We Share Your Information With
We share your information only with the cloud service providers needed to operate the app:
- Neon (database hosting)
- Cloudflare (image cover hosting)
- Google Cloud (image matching via Vertex AI; text recognition via Cloud Vision)
- Fly.io (application backend hosting)
- Apple (App Store distribution, push notifications if enabled later)
We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
If you tap an in-app link to an external site (e.g., an eBay listing to acquire a missing issue), that third party operates under their own privacy policy.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We retain your collection data for as long as you keep your account.
You can permanently delete your account and data at any time from inside the app, in Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deletion takes effect immediately and removes your account, your tracked collection, your individual copies and their details, the runs you track, any training photos you contributed, and your sign-in sessions. Anonymous diagnostic and usage logs are de-identified (the link to your account is removed) and may be retained in aggregate.
You can also request deletion by emailing runfiller@bazstudios.com, and we will delete your data within 30 days of verifying your request.
Training photos contributed via Model Improvement Opt-In are retained until you revoke consent. Revoking deletes all of your previously-contributed training data from our storage within 30 days.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the data we hold about you (request via email)
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data instantly from inside the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account), or by email request (effective within 30 days)
- Export your collection in a portable format (JSON)
- Opt in or out of the Model Improvement program at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data, and delete previously-contributed training photos within 30 days of opt-out
- Turn off anonymous usage stats and diagnostics at any time in Settings → Privacy & Data
If you're in California (CCPA), the European Union (GDPR), or another jurisdiction with specific data rights, contact us and we will honor applicable rights.
Children's Privacy
RunFiller is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, contact us and we will delete it.
Cover Imagery
Comic cover images displayed in the app are sourced from publicly-available promotional materials provided by publishers, distributors, and retailers. These images are used solely to help you identify issues in your collection. They are not collected from you and we do not associate them with your personal data.
Cookies and Tracking Technologies
The RunFiller iOS app does not use cookies or cross-app tracking technologies. We do not participate in the Apple Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework's tracking permission requests because we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date above will always reflect the most recent revision.
